IPAN Associate 4iP Council is hosting a free educational online event which will explore whether the value of standard essential patents (SEPs) should be independent of the level of licensing in the value chain.

The online panel discussion jointly sponsored by IPAN and the IET on 24 November attracted a record audience of over 220 people. The panel of experts from tech companies Nokia, Vodafone and u-blox, and from IP Law firm Percy Crow Davis, ably chaired by entrepreneur Alessandro Hatami, founder of advisory firm The Pacemakers, discussed how 5G ownership rights will likely affect access to 5G online services throughout the developed and the developing world and answered questions from online participants. The University of Glasgow is hosting a free interactive Zoom event, titled “Who’s Zoomin Who? Music, Copyright and Precarity”, on 12 November. The event has been made possible by funding from the Being Human festival and the Economic and Social Research Council’s Festival of Social Science.

In preparation for the autumn transition to online teaching of most IP courses, the UK Intellectual Property Awareness Network (IPAN) and the US Center for Intellectual Property Understanding (CIPU), held a first, well attended (70 registrants),international Zoom workshop on July 8th to share good practice and practical tips amongst IP educators.
